My first Who show at age 14. Support band Nine Below Zero were a powerful R&B band and got a good reaction from the crowd of 6000. Crowd was a total mix of rockers, punks, young mods and general rock music fans. The venue an ice rink, the ice covered over with matting.
The Who kicked off with the classic set openers. Substitute and Can't Explain to mass pogoing. Very loud. Into Baba O'Riley, then a sequence of songs from Face Dances and Who are You - kept the crowd simmering but not estatic. Then into the classic material, Drowned, Blues Eyes, Punk, Who Are You, 5:15, then into My Generation, the intro to which was altered - drum beat over which Towhshend counted down the intro "1,2,1,2,3,4", "Crunch!" and into the riff.
I cant remember at which point the lasers came on, but Won't Get Fooled Again with the laser beams was amazing. Encore: feel good Summertime Blues then, quite suprisingly, Twist and Shout, finishing of with The Real me from Quad.
A very loud and powerful show!
